Bat Cave Expatriates, an HCC alumni invitational
HCC Professor Alix Hegeler calls the windowless domain of the campus print room, the Bat Cave. The current Tabor Art Gallery exhibit, “Bat Cave Expatriates,” is a tongue in cheek, tip of the hat to their former teacher and mentor by artists Michael C. Barrett, Christopher Blair, and David Czupryna, three HCC expatriates/alumni.
Barrettt, a sound artist, painter and photographer currently living in Easthampton, MA, has said, "My work is easily summed up as experimetning in texture...whether it be sound, painting, collage, whatever."
Blair has characterized his painting as "...a conglomoration of styles ranging from surrealism to abstract expressionism."
Czupryna currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and works as a painter for the artist Jeff Koons. Commenting on his evolution as an artist, he notes "As of late I've been anthropomorphizing my creatures and making compositions reminiscent of religious paintings by the likes of Rubens and Leonardo with a little hint of Goya."
The exhibit runs through December 18. There will be a reception Wednesday, December, 2, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., with an artist’s gallery talk at noon.
The Taber Art Gallery is conveniently accessed through the HCC Library in the Donahue Building. Hours are M-W 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Th 2-6 p.m.; and Fri 8-11 a.m. (during regular school session).
