John Calhoun: Paintings & Drawings

The work of artist John Calhoun will be on display at HCC’s Taber Art Gallery through February 26.

A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute (BFA) and the Rhode Island School of Design (MFA), Calhoun teaches art at Holyoke Community College, Springfield College, and Rhode Island School of Design. His work has appeared in solo shows in Boston, San Francisco, Provincetown, and Springfield, and has been featured in numerous group shows.  Awards include the 2008 Blanche E. Coleman Award and a fellowship residency at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. 

 

Of his artistic process Calhoun has said “Drawing with inkblots helps to expose and simultaneously camouflage unconscious impulses, and also allows the tendencies and patterns that resonate with my sensibilities to be observed.”

 

The Taber Art Gallery is accessed through the HCC Library in the Donahue Building. Hours are Monday-Wednesday 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Thursday 2-6 p.m.; and Friday 8-11 a.m., during regular school session.
