Creating a Culture of Change and Cohesion
The Massachusetts Community Colleges 2nd Annual Diversity and Inclusion Summit drew faculty and staff from across the state for a full day of workshops on Friday, June 12. Hosted by HCC for the second year, the purpose of the annual summit is to provide an environment in which issues of diversity and inclusion can be meaningfully addressed.
Presented by staff from HCC as well as those from Bunker Hill Community College, Massasoit Community College, North Shore Community College, and Quinsigamond Community College, workshops this year included Affinity Groups: Who Benefits?, Teaching for Inclusion, Student Cultural Ambassadors, TransCampus, Welcoming Diversity, SafeZone Training, Promoting a Culture of Civility: Planting the Seed, and Civility Initiative.
Both in workshops and at lunch, participants discussed ways to foster a community that respects differences, challenges assumptions, and creates a safe environment for its members. Thanks to HCC’s Council for Community, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for organizing this event.
