Ludlow Center director honored with award
HCC's Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center director Kermit Dunkelberg was honored on Oct. 22 as "Administrator of the Year" by the Massachusetts Coalition for Adult Education Network at their annual conference in Marlborough. Dunkelberg, who has held the position as LAALC program coordinator since 2006, has broadened the scope of services offered by LAALC beyond teaching ESOL classes to adult immigrants to also include basic computer technology. He said computer literacy is as important as English language literacy in today's job market and tight economy.
Kenny Tamarkin, executive director of the Massachusetts Coalition, said Dunkelberg is respected for his work throughout the region and was nominated by staff and also colleagues in the field of adult basic education.
Dunkelberg, who is also an actor and recently travelled to Serbia with a performance group, said he was humbled by the award. "A lot of people all over New England are doing very dedicated work in the field so to be singled out was such an honor," he said. "I felt like a proxy standing in for all the others who do such great work."
