Learning Communities Program Highlighted
Holyoke Community College's Learning Communities program was recently spotlighted by the League for Innovation in the Community College, an international alliance of more than 800 institutions that serve community colleges worldwide.
Kudos go out to Professor Jack Mino and the Learning Communities faculty at HCC for their work as featured in the article titled "A Leader in Learning Communities."
Mino is coordinator of HCC's Learning Communities program, which earned national recognition as a Learning Communities program for "having played a critical role in supporting the college mission along with leading the campus in innovation, collaboration and inclusion."
The HCC's LC program, which uses a "team-taught" approach for interdisciplinary education, was described as being a platform for innovation for introducing such new courses as Sustainability Studies and Women's Studies Programs.
HCC's unique curriculum helps under-prepared students prepare, prepared students to advance and advanced students to excel, the League wrote.
