NASA Science Fellowship to HCC Student
Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium provides opportunity

HCC engineering major Timothy Coyle will spend the summer learning research methodology and exploring space-related technology at the University of Massachusetts, thanks to a science fellowship from the NASA Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium.
“It’s a great opportunity to learn more about the field, and an experience I wouldn’t have otherwise had without this funding,” said Coyle, who enrolled at HCC to pursue his interest in science and engineering.
Before enrolling at HCC, Coyle had a career as a chef, and also served in the Marines.
"Cooking is challenging, and I enjoy making food for people,” he remarked. “But I wanted a different kind of intellectual stimulation. HCC has been a great place to prepare. I’ve been taking prerequisites for higher level classes, and getting ready to transfer. I want my BA, and probably a master’s in electrical engineering.”
In 2006, HCC became the first community college and 15th member of the Consortium, which has granted fellowships to six HCC students since then, including two women.
