Successful Student Checklist

This student checklist is to help you manage your time efficiently and make sure you have everything necessary to begin the school year.  Please feel free to contact us at answers@hcc.edu if you have any questions.  HCC uses e-billing and HCC email for all its communication.  Your first priority to stay connected with HCC is to log into your accounts at MyHCC.  Have a successful year!

Activate your My HCC Access
My HCC Portal, My Online services, Moodle (Online, Brick & Click and Companion Courses) and Cougar Den.  Go to www.hcc.edu, then the My HCC quick link in the top navigation menu or in the bottom campus tools menu.  Click Login Now and enter username and password to access the name of your advisor, verify your major, and print your schedule.

RAVE
Sign up for HCC's Emergency Notification System and we'll let you know when the college is closed or there is an emergency.  You can choose to receive the alerts by phone, text, or email.


Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA)

Submit electronically; correct your FASFA; and check your status at www.fafsa.ed.gov with HCC Federal School Code #002170.

College Placement Test
Is a computerized assessment of basic math, reading, and writing, and is required. Testing takes approximately two hours in the Assessment Center (FR 271).


Student ID card
Bring your printed schedule and license (or state issued picture ID) to get your HCC Student ID Card in the Assessment Center (FR 271)


Advising Center
 Provides all aspects of academic advising to new, current and returning students.  They will assist with registration of classes. See an advisor on a walk-in basis or by appointment (FR 273).


Pay Your Bill
Login to My Online services to make payments or go to Student Account Office (FR 201).  HCC no longer mails bills, check your HCC email to review your e-bill.


Waive Health Insurance
Health insurance fees may be waived, if the student has comparable coverage through personal, parental, or spousal insurance, in Student Accounts (FR 201) or at  My Online Services.


Validate Student ID card
You'll need to do this every semester to gain access to academic computer labs, Bartley Center for Athletics and Recreation, library, PVTA bus pass, and student records. Get your HCC Student ID card
validated (your payments and health insurance will have to be up-to-date) in Student Accounts (FR 201)


PVTA Bus Pass
You'll need your validated HCC Student ID card to receive your bus pass; and both cards are needed to use the PVTA service for free. Student Accounts Office (FR 201).


Library Card
Bring your validated HCC Student ID card to the library for a barcode which will give you access to library resources. (DON 202).


Parking Registration
Login to My Online Services and click Parking System to print a temporary parking sticker. Take your vehicle registration to Campus Police to receive a permanent sticker (Public Safety Bldg. 214, across the street from Frost).


Bookstore
You'll need your class schedule and your HCC Student ID card plus Financial Aid voucher, cash, check or charge to purchase or rent books. Located in Campus Center 1st floor. *General hours 8:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. *Hours are subject to change, for an up-to-date schedule check the Bookstore page.


Computer Access Needed

Use HCC computers to login to "My HCC" in the Advising Center (FR 273), Financial Aid (FR 201), Student Accounts (FR 201),  or Welcome Center (FR 221).


Classrooms
Locate your classrooms in advance. Campus map is available online and in the Student Handbook.


Student Handbook
Become familiar with the College's policies and student services at the Publications page.


New Student Orientation & Program Day
Attend your scheduled mandatory OrientationFailure to attend will result in dropping of your scheduled classes.
