About

Baseball

The Baseball Program began at Holyoke Community College in 1968. The team started on a major league note when Fran Healy, a former New York Yankee catcher, became the first coach. Prior to that time baseball had been played in various years. The team practiced and played at local parks near the old campus on Sargeant Street in Holyoke. Since that time, the Program has developed and grown. In the thirty-eight seasons of playing, the team has won over 400 games, participated in post-season play for 27 seasons, produced 58 All-New England players and five All-Americans. The 1974 Team set and still holds the NJCAA National Record for Best Fielding percentage in a season. The team plays home games on Campus at the H.C.C. Cougar Field which has hosted State Tournaments on eight different occasions. The team conducts a "fall season" of practices and scrimmages. They train indoors at the Bartley Center with conditioning, hitting, and other workouts. In recent years the team has had spring training and games in locations as close as Cape Cod and as far away as Florida, with New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia trips in between.
