The 18th annual HCC Jazz Festival opens Friday, March 27, with a concert by the Amherst Jazz Orchestra featuring jazz singer Sheila Jordan as guest artist for a weekend of musical performances.
The festival begins at 8 p.m. in the Leslie Phillips Theater in the HCC Fine & Performing Arts building. Tickets are $15 (general public), $10 (seniors and non-HCC students) and $7 for members of the HCC community (students, staff and faculty). Call (413) 552-2485 to reserve tickets.
The festival continues on Saturday, Mach 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Leslie Phillips Theater with big band and combo performances by high school and HCC jazz students. Jazz clinics, workshops and jam sessions will be held throughout the day in the HCC Recital Hall (FPA building, Room 137). Sheila Jordan will conduct two clinics, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.
The festival will conclude Saturday with a concert in the theater from 4 to 5 p.m. This will feature Jordan performing with a select combo of high school students representing each school, an HCC student group and a group of festival faculty.
All Saturday events are free and open to the public. Individuals who wish to participate in workshops will be charged a nominal registration fee.
The event is sponsored by HCC and Gerry's Music Shop in South Hadley, which will have a booth displaying instruments, music and accessories.
