James Baldwin: The Price of the Ticket

Date:
March 4, 2015
Time:
1:00 p.m.
Location:
Leslie Phillips Theater

A screening of the 90-minute American Masters documentary, described as an overview of "The life, works and beliefs of the late writer and civil rights activist are recounted: what it is to be born black, impoverished, gifted, and gay in a world that has yet to understand that 'all men are brothers.' The film includes archival footage of Baldwin's public appearances as well as interviews with Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka, William Styron, and Bobby Short.  Baldwin's message, a clarion call for racial, social, and sexual equality, remains painfully relevant. This event is sponsored by the Ford Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts in support of their mission to engage diverse communities, inspire dialogue, and encourage citizen-activists.
