Professor Justin West, M.F.A, Electronic Media
Degree and from where it was
received:
M.F.A. from the University
of Massachusetts/Amherst
Courses you teach: Video, Digital Imaging, Great
Film Directors, Animation, Introduction to Electronic Media, Electronic
Media Seminar, Introduction to Visual Media, Multimedia, Electronic
Narrative.
Accomplishments (personal or professional): I started
the Electronic Media Program at HCC in 1992. It has grown from one
faculty member and three computers, to two faculty and 20 computers.
In those ten years we've moved from our original quarters in a closet
to our present 15-workstation Electronic Media Studio and our Video
Studio in Donahue. The next couple of years may see us moving again
to a new, state-of-the-art Media Arts Center in G-building. This,
and the fact that students come back to visit us, is what I am most
proud of.
Favorite thing about teaching: Seeing a student
make that connection between something they have learned at College
and something that is significant in their own lives.
Memorable moment at HCC: Perhaps the most memorable
moment for me was when I was applying for my present position, I
discovered that the Dean had taken a class with me when I was TA
in graduate school.
Teaching philosophy: Teachers don't teach, they
help students teach.
