STRIVE (Students Together Reach Individual Visions of Excellence)

Are you interested in college but need some support along the way? STRIVE is designed to help you succeed. It provides ongoing academic and personal assistance to students who are first generation to college or low-income or have a documented disability.

About STRIVE

STRIVE is a federally funded Student Support Services TRIO program for academically disadvantaged students. STRIVE students receive select academic support services from an array of offerings that include:

• Academic and transfer counseling
• Financial literacy awareness and advising
• Learning coaches and math tutors
• Dedicated developmental math and English courses
• Monthly workshops
• Peer mentoring
• Cultural activities

Schedule and Location

STRIVE operates daily from 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and by appointment. It is located in Donahue Building, Room 240.

Transportation and Parking

Transportation to HCC is available via PVTA buses. Parking is available in student lots.

To Apply

Students must fill out a STRIVE application to determine eligibility for the program. Eligible students must:

• Be enrolled in nine (9) or more credits
• Have completed Level 5 ESL, if applicable
• Demonstrate academic need
• Be likely to earn a degree and transfer to a bachelor's degree program within four years of acceptance into STRIVE

Additionally, all STRIVE students must be first-generation, low-income and/or disabled.

Eligible students will meet with a STRIVE advisor for an interview. Space is limited to 215 students per academic year.
