Mount Tom Academy

Mount Tom Academy at Holyoke Community College is an alternative learning program for high school students at risk of dropping out of school. The program is specifically designed to serve students who have been unsuccessful in traditional high school settings and may benefit from alternative placement. Students placed in the program will eventually return to their sending schools, or finish their high school work at Mount Tom Academy and then graduate from their sending school.

The program offers an open, diverse environment that challenges students while providing a high level of support. It employs self-directed learning methods that engage reluctant learners in their own educational process, removes students' objections to studying and learning, and promotes achievement among students who would otherwise be likely to drop out of school.
